Witley Court

Yesterday as a college group we went to spend the day at Witley Court. The weather was great for photographers and we spent hours walking around the buildings & garden taking lots of images. As I have never used it before I wanted to use my Lomography Diana camera, so I used a 120mm black and white film with a wide angle lens & then I changed the back or my camera to use a 35mm lens with a telephoto lens. I was a bit worried about using this camera because what you see through the viewfinder isn't the same as what you will see on the negative through the lens so I wont know how they have turned out until they have finished being developed. I used my digital camera to take a couple of images but not many because I had already walked around the area twice taking images and to be honest it seemed like it dragged a bit so I really didn't feel like walking around a third time. However, I suppose the consequence to this would be if my films didn't come out I wouldn't have any images from the day.

Typography

iMovie

This is my first attempt of creating a portfolio using iMovie.

 I only have 6 images on here from my holiday in Turkey 2012 because I just wanted to have a play around with imove to see if I was able to do it.

                                                       

Once I have sorted out all the images I would like on my portfolio, I will create a new movie with all the images & post it on here for you all to see.


How to create a portfolio using iMovie.

1. You will need to open all the images to you in your portfolio in either lightroom or photoshop.

2. Once they are all open, change them to about 5x7 with a resolution of about 200 because they need to be a small file to be able to upload them to blogger.

3. Drag & drop all images into iMovie in the order you would like them to appear.

4. Now its time to personalize it however you want by adding transactions, changing the speed, adding text if you want it.

5. Once you have your movie they way you want it go back onto your project library, right click & export using quick time. It is ideal to use quick time as it is liable to use on most computers.

This one I couldn't decide whether I preferred it in black and white or colour so I decided to put both on :)

Coventry Cathedral

Just something I tried out from the images I took at the old Coventry Cathedral.

Marlene Dietrich

 When doing my Hollywood style images I wanted to recapture the image in the left but when I come to do it the lighting was actually really simple so my tutor wanted me to do something a little bit more difficult so I chose the image on the right.

The contrast in the second image isn't as great as the first but there is a lot more different grey tones.

This is the photograph I took to practice getting the pose right but I did this when I was doing my original image. However when it came to changing my image I didn't have time to do a practice shot, I had to just hope for the best.

To the left is my lighting diagram of how the lights where set up in the studio to photograph this shot.

The image below is my original image that I took but I had to take 10 images to get it right. The lighting isn't 100% but it was the best  could get it plus we ran out of time.

I struggled with editing my image because its been a while since iv edited photographs thoroughly as I don't really like editing my image. However I am really happy with the outcome because I think I captured it quite well and it turned out a lot better then what I expected it to.

Marlene Dietrich

 

                     

In each of these images Marlene Dietrich is holding a cigarette in her hand, this somehow gives her a dominant look, makes her look like she's in control, especially with the last three images where her hair is back off of her face. The photograph I am going to try and reconstruct is the very first one where she has got the cigarette in her mouth and she is winking at the camera. I like this images because she looks a little cheeky with the wink as well as being dominant. The shallow depth of field the photographer has captured shows her importance even more with the hard light on her right hand side.

Audrey Hepburn

 

     

In these images Audrey Hepburn is looking directly into the camera apart from the very last one where she is looking slightly above the camera. The way she poses with the blank expression on her face & with the way the light captures her she looks very elegant and pure. With the last image the dark background against the light on her pale skin gives her a glamorous appearance. There is great contrast in these image as there is a range of whites to greys and blacks. My favourite pose out of thees is the one she is doing on the fourth image as she looks slightly seductive but at the time really sweet and innocent.

Water Droplet Set Up

Yesterday we did a workshop on water droplets in the studio. To actually do the shoot was a lot easier then what I thought but it took me a few attempts to get a decent photo because I couldn't get the timing right with pressing the shutter release as the liquid left the bag.

The equipment we needed to do this shoot was:

A camera

Zoom lens

Tripod

Flash gun/Speed light

Hot sheer attachment

Tray of water

Food colouring

Milk

Bucket of clean water

Sandwich bags

Pins

Two light stands

A thin piece of wood

I really enjoyed doing this shoot and leaning how to do it because it is something I have always wanted to be able to do. The shoot went really well, we worked well together as a group and each of us had something to do and together between us we took over 200 photographs, even though only a handful of them turned out to be decent images.

These are a few examples of work I found from Martin Waugh. This is the kind of results I wanted to achieve with my attempts but once I actually come to photograph the water droplets it is a lot harder then what it looks with getting the timing right. I think the photographer has edited the colour in these images because the reflection on the water is a contrasting colour to the water droplet but it makes the splash really stand out.

Water Droplets

These images are a small selection from the images my group and I took in the studio using a camera & a flash gun. I have slightly edited then by altering the contrast, brightness & saturation of them. We had a lot of fun experimenting with different liquids & backgrounds but I found that dropping milk into water worked the best.
