After two years on my HND Photography course the time has come for me to
start my final major project (FMP), this is a project that I can photograph
whatever I decide.
These are three ideas that I have come up with to have a think about for
my FMP.
-Portraiture – For this idea I would look at the history of portraiture
& try to re-create the same effect but with a slight modern twist.
I couldn’t find who
actually took this photograph but it was taken in 1870 & is called
‘portrait of a trumpeter’
-Street – As my main strength in photography is photography people I
thought I could photograph people on the street. I have an idea of sitting in
the same spot & watch people passing by waiting for the right moment to
photograph them, like the decisive moment by Henri Cartier-Bresson.
-Family Snapshots – My family are a very big part of me especially my
nieces and nephew so I have an idea of going out for the day, even if it is
just to he park for a couple of hours to feed the ducks & play on the
swings. I will snapshot the three children throughout the day being 100%
natural & showing a variety of emotions.

Aimy I like the first idea the most. You could be very creative with that. Mixing old and modern could give great outcomes. Just need to balance it well not to do overboard. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI think the first idea is the strongest and would be a great series. It will be interesting to see the outcome you produce :D
ReplyDeleteI think you should got for the first idea. Creating images like this in the studio could give you strong images for your portfolio. Its not that I don't like the other two ideas, but you would always be able to do them at anytime.
ReplyDeleteI think idea 1 and 2 would work best in an exhibition space and both would work well with your own creative take on the subject. I think the street photography idea could be effective, especially if you took photos of the same spot at different times throughout the day and even on different days. It would also be good if you pick a location that has some personal reference to you.
ReplyDeleteI think you should go for idea 1 and 2 as they would work best in an exhibition space. both of your ideas work with your own creativity on the subjects. Good luck
ReplyDeleteAimy Jo, you have discussed 3 very different ideas, and the feedback you have received is positive towards the first idea. The Victorian portrait is a strong statement, many of the sitters used props to identify who they were and also acknowledge their wealth and status in society. I know that through discussion with James you have decided to undertake this project using the Retired Person as your sitter, which I thoroughly support. I suggest that you look at other photographers such as August Sander, Seydou Keita, Larry Sultan, Emil Otto Hoppe, Nadar, Matthew Brady and Etienne Carjat. Also at the Birmingham Library recent Brian Griffiths portraits were on show.
